Moorten Botanical Garden

This historic Palm Springs Garden needed a new look online.

This was the first website I built, and it opened my eyes to the impact a good website can make. Their previous site was all brown, with yellow comic sans text, and almost no photos.

I offered to build my first website for them pro-bono

Using limited resources and basic knowledge of web protocol, I built this site for my friend and Master Gardener mentor, Clark Moorten, shortly before I moved away from Palm Springs.

The number visitors had more than doubled and the business had grown from one part time employee to two full time staff!

When I returned, Mr. Moorten was thrilled to see me. The number visitors had more than doubled and the business had grown from one part time employee to two full time staff, meaning he was no longer tied to the business phone all day! He even followed my advice to increase the price for renting out his venue, and unsurprisingly, he was less frustrated with rental clients once they were actually paying for the time and effort he puts into their events.

A good business with a bad website is a missed opportunity, and I realized I wanted to seize those opportunities. I set out to learn as much as I could about web development and marketing, with a focus on business development. I decided it was my goal to help talented people engage with their audience.
